Environmental, Social, Corperate Governance

Scottish Government Energy Policy describes PSH as:

“major infrastructure projects, with considerable economic and industrial value attached”

NET-ZERO

Our projects are crucial to helping Scotland and the UK achieve ambitious Net-Zero Targets.

The ‘Red John’ project at Loch Ness will save 45 Million Tonnes of C02e over its lifetime. Combined with our pipeline of battery and PSH projects we estimate that hundreds of Millions of Tonnes of CO2 will be saved.

Our projects are designed towards achieving Net-Zero during construction with massive savings in C02 emissions during operation. We’re transporting materials by water, sourcing materials on site, and using electric vehicles where possible to keep emissions as low as possible.

CONSTRUCTION JOBS AND INVESTMENT

Our current pipeline of projects will create and support thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

Dozens of permanent highly skilled jobs will be created.

Businesses and local economies will benefit from circa £1.5 Billion worth of construction costs.

SAVINGS ON CONSUMER BILLS

Our projects recycle Renewable Energy that is currently lost when wind farms are curtailed.

This reduces Constraints Payments, which are £millions paid to wind farms each year to stop generating when demand is low. We use that energy instead, and the saving is passed to consumers.

£billions in other savings for the Electricity System can be achieved with greater storage on the system. These are real costs that would otherwise be borne by the consumer through their energy bills.

ENHANCED BIODIVERSITY AND ECOLOGY

We look for every opportunity to enhance and protect ecological assets wherever possible.

At Red John we are replacing commercial forestry operations with a permanent plantation of natural, broad-leaved woodland; enhancing juniper grounds; reinstating species; enhancing diverse grasslands; creating new wetlands; actively managing ancient woodlands; removing invasive species and, helping ground flora recover from years of grazing and commercial forestry operations.

We’re also protecting and promoting cultural heritage, boosting tourism, and supporting the communities in which we operate.

CREATING A FLEXIBLE, RESILIENT, AND SECURE ELECTRICITY NETWORK

Aligns with Government Policy which describes our projects as “major infrastructure projects, with considerable economic and industrial value attached”

The projects comply with both the UK and Scottish Government policy for electricity decarbonisation, which will deliver increasing volumes of renewable electricity capacity.

Our projects meet demand for power system flexibility while offering technological, economic, and environmental benefits.

Our projects will improve the UK’s energy security by reducing reliance on imported electricity in future. They help create an electricity network which is resilient and sufficiently secure against any fluctuations or interruptions to supply.
